Pre and Post X-Rays

The following x-rays are of Atlas Chiropractic PC patients before and after beginning treatment.  The red curve indicates where the normal alignment, or curve, should actually be, according to research.  The blue hashes indicate where the person’s bones are actually lined up.  The further the blue lines are from the red curve, the more poorly aligned the spine is.   Someone who is hunched forward or slumping is demonstrated as the blue line being forward of the red curve on x-ray.  The "after" x-rays all demonstrate how the person’s alignment is approaching normal.   By the way of commentary on slumped posture, a study published in the October 2004 issue of Journal of the American Geriatrics Society found that bad posture can actually kill you!   When you see someone with a "hunchback" or the "hump" at the top of their upper back, it may be that the person has too much of a curve in that part of their spine.  This posture problem is called hyperkyphosis. ("Hyper" is excessive; "kyphosis" is the normal backwards curve in the upper back.)  This condition correlates with increased chance of having atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries).  The people in the study who demonstrated even a slight hyperkyphosis had a 1.44 times greater mortality (mortality=rate of dying) than those without this posture problem.  This increased deaths due to atherosclerosis by 2.4 times!!

The authors of the study believed that interventions specifically targeted at improving hyperkyphotic posture could result in reduced mortality rates. The good news is that with Dr. Erica's corrective chiropractic adjustments, posture improves immediately; breathing is easier; you stand up straighter without trying.  And many people see a measurable improvement in hyperkyphosis when undergoing corrective chiropractic care.  When was the last time you had a check-up?  Who do you know that needs to get a check-up?
